About American Ballet Academy:
American Ballet Academy was founded in 1991. It changed directorship in 2004. Today it has nearly 250 students of all ages and levels. We seek to spread the love of dance through education, quality instruction and community involvement. With an atmosphere of support, encouragement, and respect students work toward their potential while developing competence and confidence both as dancers and individuals.
About Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have achieved advanced/professional levels of ballet. We are especially interested in individuals who have studied dance in college, and/or have professional performing experience. The ability to teach other genres of dance is a plus. Teaching experience is required.
Applicants must be good with people of all ages (3-adult), and be able to adapt to the different dynamics that various age groups and levels will require. The ideal candidate will be able to teach all skill levels, including pointe. Applicant must be able to capture and maintain the focus of a class, and keep students motivated throughout. We are seeking a dependable, enthusiastic, patient individual with strong communication skills who can think and critique creatively.
Ballet Instructor(s) Position:
A total of 10-14 classes a week are available starting September 2011. Depending on new hire's availability and ability to teach multiple levels, the position may be filled by one to three people; applicants who can only teach a few hours are still encouraged to apply. It is possible to add an additional 5-10 hours of administrative/assistance work to the teaching load. Teaching hours are paid at $25-$35 an hour, depending on experience and class size. Administrative work is paid $15 an hour. Ideally, applicants will be available for job shadowing/training and substitute teaching starting mid-July before starting a regular teaching schedule in September, but we are flexible and will work with the right candidate.
Assistant Director Position:
Salaried position is based on an average 30 hour work week. Hours include: 12-17 hours of teaching, an average of 2 hours a week for studio rehearsals and performances, an average of 2-3 hours a week for prep work, and 8-13 hours a week of business/administrative assistant work. Position includes vacation time as follows: two weeks for Christmas, one week for Spring Break, four weeks for summer (summer schedule will be coordinated and split with the director), and other various holidays. Pay range is $25,000-$33,000 a year depending on training, education, and teaching experience. Merit bonuses also are available. Ideally, applicant will be available for job shadowing/training and substitute teaching starting early-mid July before starting a regular teaching schedule in September, but we are flexible and will work with the right candidate.
